Addiction Treatment News at Genesis House
Weekly Outings
Since we've reached that time of year when Florida weather turns gorgeous, we let our clients take advantage of this as much as possible. Outings and field trips teach our clients to enjoy their lives and that their lives are worth living in a sober state. One of the most important lessons a client will learn is how to have fun without the aid of a substance, which is what these trips teach. Some regular weekly activities include going to the movies, bowling, and the beach. As a special treat last week, our clients attended tennis camp, where they were taught how to play tennis by a certified instructor. Some upcoming trips include pier fishing, nature hikes, and a trip to the zoo. In addition, our counselors are encouraged to take small groups of clients on therapeutic trips, like to the park, nature preserves, or museums. This helps to create a close bond among the counselors and the group in a safe and nurturing environment.
Beautification Project
Genesis House has recently undertaken several physical changes in our effort to be more welcoming and accommodating to our clients. This beautification project included repaving our long driveway and several parts of the campus, creating a new meditation area, and making a large shaded area for the clients. Repaving the driveway at our facility has made it more appealing to look at, drive on, and walk on. However, it also ensures the clients' and staffs' safety as it creates a smooth and level surface to walk on. It is being enjoyed by all, especially the clients that jog in the mornings. Our new meditation area helps give the clients an area to relax and calmly collect their thoughts. Located in the great outdoors under one of our lush trees, it is an ideal spot for having a relaxed mind. The area is sufficiently shaded, letting the client sit atop newly planted grass while they discover the benefits of meditation. It is complete with a meditation fountain and a friendly policy that states the area is to be used only for serene thinking. As Florida is called the "Sunshine State" for a reason, we decided to construct a large, shaded area for the clients to hang out under, away from the sun's rays. After careful consideration, a large shaded area was constructed on campus, providing cool shade year round. Fondly referred to as "The Pavilion" by our clients, this area is complete with several tables, houses our ping pong table, and is used for our weekly exercise program. The clients also enjoy barbecues underneath, group sessions, or just relaxing with each other.
