Taylor was born and raised in South Florida. Taylor completed his undergraduate education at Boston University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in International Economics in 2010. Taylor’s family has been involved in the local recovery community for decades and has personally worked for Genesis House for nearly 10 years. Taylor is responsible for the day-to-day operations at Genesis House.
After finishing her degree from Florida State University, Dillon pursued her interests in health and well-being, culminating with her current position as COO at Genesis House. Dillon is a life long resident of Florida and has traveled extensively throughout the world, learning about other countries and cultures. She understands the vulnerability of being in a new, unfamiliar place and works to make everyone feel comfortable throughout their stay here. Dillon’s compassionate personality helps her relate to our clients while ensuring the day to day activities and interactions at Genesis House run smoothly.
Stephen Adams, MSW, LCSW, CAP
Stephen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Addiction Professional, and graduate from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. He has a Masters Degree in Social Work, Bachelors Degree in Social Work, and BA in Criminal Justice. Stephen brings a very strong clinical background to Genesis House. He puts a strong emphasis on reality therapy, anger management, cognitive behavioral therapy, and empowering clients through solution-focused modalities. He also has extensive training in psychopathology which generally occurs simultaneously with substance dependence disorders. Robert Hooper, BS, CAP
Robert has a BA in Sociology. He is from New Jersey where he developed an extensive background working with a dual diagnosed population. Robert also brings to the Genesis House Agency extensive training in behavior modification and anxiety management. He has strong Christian roots and theological studies to enhance the development necessary to address the emotional and spiritual deprivation synonymous with addiction. Robert incorporates a special emphasis in the area of adult children of alcoholics. He also has a background in low- elements ropes course training. Natasha Hazen-Valvo, MSW, LCSW
Natasha has her Masters Degree in Social Work from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Natasha’s therapeutic approaches include CBT, Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy to enable her clients to maximize and benefit the most, during this healing process. Natasha has twenty years of personal and professional experience in the substance abuse field that helps to facilitate client’s social rehabilitation and family reunification. Natasha’s ethical and extensive training helps to assist clients in developing self awareness, accountability, appropriate coping skills, daily life skills, and effective decision making skills. John Lachman, LMHC
John’s therapeutic approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapies, Motivational Interviewing and Energy Psychology. John works with clients suffering from the disease of addiction and co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, trauma issues, impulse control disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress and/or Acute Stress Disorders. Laura Mattiasen, LMHC, RN
Laura is a Registered Nurse, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Sex Therapist and Hypno Therapist. Her primary duties for Genesis is Utilization Review, insurance verification and quality assurance. Laura also does counseling due to her vast experience and knowledge in addiction and mental health treatment field. Laura works closely with the agencies doctors and facilitates initial medical histories on new incoming patients to Genesis House.
Karen Gauci, M.P.H., R.D., L.D.
Karen M. Gauci is a registered and licensed Dietitian and Nutritionist with a Master’s Degree in Public Health and is currently in private practice in Boca Raton, Florida. She is the owner and president of the 2001 Nutrition Services, Inc., a company with the philosophy of providing education, teaching and counseling in all areas related to nutrition: substance abuse, psychiatric disorders, weight management, chronic disease risk reduction, health promotion and wellness, sports nutrition, pediatrics, eating disorders, and local and national presentations.
Licensed Massage Therapist
Sabrina Romero was born in Caracas, Venezuela and has resided in South Florida for over 20 years. She studied Massage Therapy at the American Institute in Pompano Beach, FL and is also a certified Pilates instructor. Sabrina believes massage can benefit those in recovery by helping to restore natural dopamine which can be depleted during active addiction. Sabrina has found helping those in early recover a very rewarding experience and her philosophy is simple: “I want to help our clients and make them feel well in all components of their recovery: body, mind and spirit”.
Thomas Jordan, Jr. – M.D., M.P.H., F.A.P.A.
Dr. Thomas E. Jordan, Jr. is an Ivy League trained Psychiatrist who holds medical degrees from the University of Florida and the Université de Toulouse, France and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Michigan. He trained in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry at Brown University and Harvard University. Dr. Jordan studied Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He is board certified in Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, and Administrative Psychiatry with certifications as a Medical Review Officer for drug testing and buprenorphine opiate detoxification. Dr. Jordan has over 30 years professional experience in general, adolescent and child psychiatry, alcohol and substance abuse treatment, and eating disorders. He served many years as the Clinical Director for the largest psychiatric hospitals in Michigan. Dr. Jordan is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Felix Elpedes
Dr. Elpedes specializes in internal medicine and has been Genesis House’s Medical Director for 10 years. He meets with all Genesis House clients for a review of physical well being upon admission into the program. Dr. Elpedes was born and raised in the Philippines.
Kim Bonilla was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and has been in the field of addiction for more than 16 years. With her diverse experience as a Case Manager, Counselor, Admissions and Utilization Review she brings a wealth of knowledge to Genesis House. Kim has an extensive background in dual diagnosis, gaining ample experience while working for a psychiatric hospital in New York. She remained at the hospital for 5+ years, working closely with mentally ill addicts and alcoholics. Kim utilizes her desire to help people along with her knowledge of substance abuse and mental illness to ensure that all of our clients are receiving the care and attention they need and deserve.
Originally from California, James worked in the addiction treatment field for many years following his educational pursuits. James worked at several well known agencies around California; The Etowah Program, Crossroads Program of Eureka and Care Unit of California. After moving to Florida James continued to work in the health care field. In 1993 James opened Genesis House Inc. in Palm Beach County. The agency has grown into a well respected provider of addiction and dual diagnosis treatment. James has personally been in recovery since 1980.
