Rehab Alumni Program
Addiction treatment may only last 30 to 90 days for most people, but the battle against this disease is a life-long challenge that comes with many ups and downs. However, despite the challenge, it is important to always remember that you are not alone.
Countless people have completed addiction rehab and countless more will join them. One way the Genesis House works to ensure that is the case is by building an extensive addiction treatment alumni program.
What is a Rehab Alumni Program?
The rehab alumni program works to connect clients currently receiving treatment with alumni who have successfully completed a rehab program for the benefit of both parties. Current guests get the benefit of seeking wisdom and advice from those who were once in their shoes. Additionally, they get the opportunity to build new friendships with those alumni.
On the other hand, alumni get the added opportunity to connect with their old treatment staff, recall all of the great work they did during their treatments, as well as maintain their relationships with their peers.
What Does a Rehab Alumni Program Provide?
Coordinating Alumni Events
The Genesis House coordinates events and gatherings for current guests and alumni to meet, mingle, network, and simply have fun.
In addition to in-person events, for those graduates and alumni who are now far away from the Florida area and may find it challenging to attend these events, we provide live streams and private group chats on Facebook to keep everyone connected.
Some alumni events will consist of shared group activities. These events are not only fantastic for sparking conversations between current clients and alumni and giving all who are involved a sense of accomplishment, but they may also teach guests new skills.

Fostering a Supportive Environment
The goal of a rehab alumni program is to foster a safe and supportive environment where anyone can feel safe to ask questions. All our clients should have the ability to connect and speak freely with people who have been through treatment and rest assured that they will not be judged or criticized for their questions or inquiries
Online Social Groups and Newsletters
To make it more convenient for all alumni, The Genesis House has social media pages and group chats to keep our guests and alumni connected no matter what the physical distance may be. As previously mentioned, these groups will often meet through remote events.
Finally, the alumni newsletter is another way that we have made it convenient for alumni and guests to stay connected.
Rehab Alumni: What Are the Benefits?
1. Building Strong Mutually-Beneficial Relationships
Not many things support long-term sobriety quite as strong friendships do. Having these relationships to rely on during downtimes is a crucial part of maintaining sobriety in the long term.
Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to build these relationships when one is suffering from a disease like addiction. Fortunately, guests at the alumni program can rely on the fact that everyone around them knows a little bit about what they’re going through, and that’s what makes all the difference. Rehab alumni programs work to foster these relationships.
2. Transitioning Back to Independent Living
Change is almost always a difficult challenge that seems impossible to navigate. But having someone who has made a particular change is much like having a map leading to your destination.
Much like clients and staff would discuss during residential treatment, coping with addiction triggers is an important topic of discussion between current guests and alumni. Guests can learn these mechanisms and life skills from alumni who have successfully applied them to real-life situations.
Additionally, alumni programs work to connect guests with sober living programs for those who require a drug or alcohol-free structured environment to ease their transition.
3. Employment Assistance
Whether guests have put a job on hold to get treatment or haven’t held a job for a significant period of time, returning to work after completing treatment can be a very stressful and challenging task.
For those who want to return to their job, the alumni program can provide assistance for that task. For those who need to search for new employment, there are many benefits that the alumni program can provide.
Firstly, by connecting with alumni who have already re-integrated into independent living, recovering guests can seek new and reliable employment opportunities. The alumni can rest assured in the quality of the treatment their peers have received since they went through the exact same programs.
Secondly, the alumni program provides plenty of supportive services including assisting in the job search, completing job applications, drafting resumes, and preparing for job interviews.
The services provided by the program, in combination with the connections fostered with alumni, give guests an excellent chance of finding employment after their treatments.
4. Fostering Positive Mindsets Through Social Gatherings and Events
Not only are these events an excellent place to give and receive advice about addiction treatment, but it is also a place for people to be inspired and motivated to continue working hard.
Recovering from addiction is easier said than done, but seeing and talking to individuals who have been through treatment and are living a life beyond their addictions can remind guests why they’re in a rehab program and prove to them that the journey is worth making.
Lastly, if nothing else, these events can provide a great opportunity to simply have fun and stay social. After all, social isolation is a common trigger for drug and alcohol addictions.
5. Access to Verified Resources
It’s often difficult to find resources or to even tell apart highly-valuable resources from the clutter. Examples of these resources may include mental health professionals, therapists, employment services, informative and educational materials, databases of mentors, and more.
The alumni program at The Genesis House ensures that all clients get access to valuable resources and support groups that are local to them.
